I love it when designers do great work and truly understand why they do what they do. Anya Hindmarch is a great British handbag designer whose popularity is still growing (especially in Asia). Her signature black bow logo is quite distinctive and her “I’m not a plastic bag” handbag has sold immensely worldwide; plus she was given an OBE award by the Queen. She praises her brand on the fact that it is ‘special’, it is a niche, and it does not mass advertise even though celebrities wearing her bags have contributed to her risen popularity. Most people who are used to very popular brands, know about the latest Chloe or D&G bag and so on, but with Anya Hindmarch you are not worried that your latest Anya Hindmarch bag will be “so last year” and outdated the next year, well as of now…

She was recently featured on the net-a-porter magazine online. She tells a quick story, from her mother’s love for fashion and the influence it had on her, the fact that she used to make handbags out of papers as a young girl, and at an early age she began to design, construct, and produce fabulous handbags herself. She has understood very early what she calls “the intimate relationship that a woman has with her handbag”, and how a handbag can make a woman feel; light, fabulous, powerful, confident, beautiful, and on top of the world. Just from that perspective, it is sure to say that Anya Hindmarch understands the relationship most women have with their handbags, the feelings they want to get from it, and how to produce the perfect handbag that does exactly that. I agree with her, in fact I never realized this, until I heard her say this in the interview on Net-a-Porter; a woman really has an intimate relationship with her handbag. We carry everything we think is important in it: our money, our makeup, our mini family pictures, our phones, planners, and the list goes on. She is definitely a designer to look at, if you are into chic handbags and certainly into a designer that understands the feeling you want to get from a handbag, Anya Hindmarch is definitely worth checking out!!
