Other Fashion News

I love what NYMag recently said about the recent economic malaise affecting the fashion industry… Funny how when the economy makes a luxury company its b****, they find out who their real friends are: the poor. Except Louis Vuitton’s customers. Those people are unstoppable“.  Recently, high fashion designers are seriously reconsidering their lines, their customer base, and their prices.  To start:

Designer Diane VonFusternberg and president of CFDA (council of fashion designers of America), met with the rest of CFDA to discuss the state of the ‘fashion show’ system.  I would think that the fashion industry does need to reconsider how Pre-Season collections are presented to the world especially during ie/ NY fashion week.  Many people agree and believe that customers, editors, etc should have access to purchasing or getting their hands at Pre-Season Collection items after shows, so that it is not just about celebrities posing at shows and a whole lot of extravaganza for the designers, but that viewers can get access to them, unless the designer refuses…  At this point designers will do whatever to beat recession fever!!

Christian LaCroix, who has been facing bankruptcy & and other kinds of legal/accounting woes, is apparently being “saved” by the French Government (Minister of Culture)!  Incroyable!!!  I guess the French government believes in Fashion, clearly fashion has given Paris and France the reputation that many other cities would die to have, so why not save France by saving a french household name, Christian LaCroix!  Well what can we say, Vive la France!!

Finally, Givenchy has figured out that perhaps creating designs that the masses can afford.  Givenchy, which belongs to the group LVMH (LOUIS .VUITTON. MOET. HENNESSY) , will offer a more affordable collection called REDUX even though prices are really starting at $340 (209 British Pounds).  LVMH has really survived the harsh economic times because of LOUIS VUITTON which continues to sell at all times.  But I am sure this will not stop with Givenchy, most designers at this rate will be reconsidering and rethinking their lines in order to bring in that money!!!  REDUX will be available in October 2009.

ironic it seems, but economic crisis did do as some good i guess. Redux By Givenchy seems fabulous and i’m just too happy that I don’t have to wait until I get old with lots of money to buy THE Givency. :-)
